How to be a Socially-Enterprising Leader
The course in Social Entrepreneurship and Leadership (SEAL) introduces how social businesses can bring significant positive changes to a local community, and reviews the techniques needed to run successful social development projects.
The course begins by introducing you to what social entrepreneurship really is and how it differs from a charity. You will learn how to define the community you intend to impact and its characteristics, and identify an issue to be actioned within the community. You will look at the various roles within a community group and the strategies it can use to further its objectives.
You will learn about the role of innovation in social entrepreneurship, what patient capital is, how to make sustainable impact and what social investing is. You will also learn about social return on investment and the nature of social entrepreneurship in developing countries.
The course then guides you on how to develop your leadership qualities to maintain momentum in your social enterprise. You will get an overview of the art of public speaking, team management and organisational strategic planning. You will learn how to attract and motivate volunteers, how to inspire community participation and how to engage the community. You will be guided through the process of creating a fundraising plan and be able to identify its components, you will also learn about the various marketing and communication strategies for fundraising. Furthermore, you will learn how to identify and apply for sources of funding for your community development projects.
This course will be of great interest to professionals or volunteers working in community development and with community organisations.
